We are continuing to learn more about seeds and the life cycle of plants. After reading Seeds by Ken Robbins, we challenged our students to see where they could find seeds. Some started looking in their lunches: strawberry seeds, blackberries and cucumber seeds were discovered. Some students took their search outdoors and found maple keys and acorns. A couple of our students even brought in some seeds they found in their food at home. Miss Hodgson shared an avocado pit she had from her lunch and the kids thought that was really cool. This has lead to some great discussions about how different seeds are, and how we eat some seeds but not others, and a question about carrot seeds even lead us to the discovery that sometimes we eat the roots of a plant! Encourage your kids to hunt for seeds while at home and they are welcome to bring them in to add to our science table!
