Over the past few weeks we have been learning about 3D shapes. The class has been identifying the different kinds of shapes and learning about the properties of each one. First we were building structures with the shapes and investigating which ones were better for stacking. Next we tested to see which ones roll or slide. This helps us begin a conversation around the different properties of the 3D solids, whether they have sides, edges, corners, or are round. All the while we are learning the different names of the shapes, we are identifying them within our environment and comparing them to their 2D counterparts. It is a fun learning opportunity because it involves building and hands on investigations.
See if you and your child can find any 3D shapes in and around your home!
