A Trip to the Butterfly Conservatory

Yesterday we had a great time learning about butterflies and different insects at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory. Our first activity was learning about the beetle. Students were given a chance to hold the baby ‘super worms’ and the adult beetle.

Then we walked around and viewed different insects on display, giant stick bugs, beautiful butterflies, and even a live tarantula.
Next we went into the conservatory a beautiful room filled with tropical plants, a waterfall with a koi fish pond and lots of live birds and butterflies of course! The groups were given a sheet outlining all the different species of birds and butterflies and we had a great time searching for and identifying them as we walked around.

Then the students acted out the different stages of the butterfly life cycle, they coloured a butterfly crown to take home, and learned about the difference between a moth and a butterfly. We even got to touch the moths cocoon. It was a great trip!
