This week our class had a visit from a local Dentist. Dr. Steckle answered our questions about what happens when you visit a dentist, how you become a dentist, and about what all those tools are used for. She also taught us about caring for our teeth, and we were pretty good at guessing the different ways we can keep our teeth strong and healthy. After the visit we decided to set up a dental office in our dramatic play centre to let students try out the different roles. Appointments were made by the receptionist and then the dentist and dental hygienist worked on cleaning teeth, counting teeth, fixing broken teeth and cavities and there was even an orthodontist who gave me braces for a steel of a deal at $9.00 🙂
Learning about members of the community is part of the emotional development learning in Kindergarten. Our hope is that students develop a better knowledge of their surroundings by engaging with the different members of our community.
