Dramatic Play – The Post Office

Our class has converted our dramatic play centre into a post office! Last week the class really enjoyed sharing and writing Valentine Cards and notes with one another, so we decided to build on that interest and keep them writing! After brainstorming a list of things we would need for the post office, some students helped create a sign and a mailbox. Today we discussed the different roles and duties of the postal workers and letter carriers. Students took turn delivering parcels, selling stamps and sorting the mail into the proper mailboxes. This is a great activity for our students because it ties into our sorting unit in math and is an introduction to one of the many community helpers we will be discussing in the coming months.
